Special Effects Dying your hair!

Como todos sabréis ya, mi pelo es rosa. Y si no lo sabías ¡ahora lo sabes! Los colores fantasía son muy difíciles de mantener y hay que repasarlos con frecuencia. Lo primero es encontrar una marca buena y que merezca la pena. Por ejemplo Directions, Manic Panic o Special Effects. Mi marca preferida es Special Effects (al menos para el rosa, para el azul Manic Panic se lleva la palma). Estas marcas duran un mes o más con un color muy vivo, así que nos hacen más fácil el mantenimiento del color.

As you all may already know by now, my hair is pink. And if you didn’ know, now you do! Bright colors are very hard to keep vibrant and need retouching every now and then. First step is finding a good brand, for example Directions, Manic Panic or Special Effects. My favourite brand at the moment is Special Effects (that’s for pink though, when i dyed it blue Manic Panic was my favourite). They stay shiny and vibrant for a month and sometimes even longer, so we don’t have to do as many touch ups.

Tinte / Hair dye

Un bol especial para tintes o uno viejo / A special hair dye bowl or an old one

Un cepillo que no te importe manchar / A comb you don’t care about anymore

Las tres marcas que he mencionado necesitan que tu pelo esté seco y perfectamente limpio. Si tu pelo no está ni seco ni limpio, olvídate de que el pelo absorba el tinte. NO te pongas acondicionador ni mascarilla cuando te laves el pelo para teñirlo. Los acondicionadores y mascarillas protegen el pelo con una capa hecha de un tipo de silicona que impide que el tinte penetre en el pelo del todo.

The three brands i mentioned need your hair to be dry and perfectly clean. If your hair is neither dry nor clean the dye won’t set in at all. DON’T use conditioner or hair masks when washing your hair to dye it. Conditioners and hair masks protect the hair  with a layer made out of a kind of silicone that doesn’t allow the dye to soak the hair with color properly.

Pelo limpio, seco y BIEN PEINADO.

Clean, dry and WELL COMBED hair.

Divídelo en dos coletas. Si tienes el pelo muy largo puedes dividir esas dos secciones en otras dos, separando la parte superior de la inferior.

Divide it in two ponytails. If your hair is long you can divide those two sections in another two, separating the upper part from the lower one.

Empezando desde el centro, empapa con la brocha toda la raíz (intenta no tocar demasiado el cuero cabelludo).

Starting up from the middle, soak the roots using the brush (try not to touch your scalp).

Con la parte trasera de la brocha, separa secciones de pelo tan finas como la de la foto y continúa aplicando el tinte en las raíces. Para la parte trasera usa dos espejos o pide ayuda.

Using the back of the dying brush, separate sections of your hair as thin as shown in the picture and keep applying dye on the roots. For the back part use two mirrors or ask for help.

Una vez terminadas las raíces, aplica el tinte en medios y puntas y distribúyelo bien usando el peine.

Once you’re done with the roots, apply the dye on the rest of your hair and help it distribute evenly by combing it through.

Siempre se dice que con media hora es suficiente, pero yo me los dejo (si tengo tiempo) 2h o más. Mientras más tiempo esté el tinte en el pelo, más pigmentado queda. Los tintes fantasía NO tienen peróxidos, son como mascarillas, así que no daña el pelo tenerlos puestos varias horas sin aclarar.

It’s said that leaving it on for half an hour is enough, but i let them sit (if i have enough time) 2h or more. The longer it stays on your hair, the more pigmented it’ll be. This kind of dye does NOT have any peroxides, they’re like hair masks, so it’s perfectly fine to leave them on without rinsing for several hours because they won’t damage your hair.

Cuando decidas quitarte el tinte, usa agua fría. El agua caliente o tibia hace que el tinte se caiga 10 veces más rápido. Primero aclara el pelo hasta que no quede tinte y después usa un champú suave. Ahora, si quieres, puedes usar acondicionador o mascarilla.

When you decide to wash your hair, use cold water. Warm/hot or lukewarm water makes dye fade 10 times faster. First rinse the hair until there’s no more dye left on it and use a gentle shampoo. Now you can use conditioner or a hair mask if you want to.
